Belfast Folk Festival 1986
When Hugh heard Australian band Redgum, their impact and influence was life changing for him.

None of the bands albums were available in Europe (dark days before internet) An acquaintance who worked on a ship carrying sheep from Australia to Saudi purchased Redgum’s entire record collection and brought them from Australia to Hugh in Ireland.

The result was Hugh forming his own folk-rock band Inchequin.

The latest line-up performed live last summer in Cyprus.

Seven albums and two hit singles later Hugh wrote his first novel ‘Band on the Run’.

From 1987 to 2008 Hugh was based in his home town of Lurgan, County Armagh, Ireland and toured with Inchequin in over twenty different countries.

Moving to Turkey in 2008, a country steeped in its rich culture of folk music had a big impact resulting with songs like the haunting ‘The One’ and hit song ‘Son Kez’

2017 Another move, this time to Cyprus where Hugh now lives. He spends his time writing books, playing gigs, recording local artists, appearing on TV and radio. He recently began record-ing audiobooks at his studio in an idyllically renovated hundred year old stone cottage.

Two novels, one short story later…
